Select Support Material
The new Mx second generation supports are available in the following materials and colors as shown in the above rendering and listed from left to right:
  • Black-Core Fiber: Made from 89% renewable, 100% recovered (reduce waste and emissions), low-formaldehyde (no added formaldehyde), moisture-resistant, high-density wood fiber material. The material has a through-core solid-black color with a hard, fine and smoothly sanded face surface that has a charcoal black appearance with light color fiber flecks.
  • White Hardwood: Made from 9 layers of high-quality baltic birch hardwood veneers to create a solid void-free multi-ply core with formaldehyde-free binder. The baltic birch has a creamy or pale white/beige hue with mostly clear, uniform and light wood grain. The top face has a finely sanded surface without knots or plugs, and the milled edge has alternating light and dark stripes created by the dense, multi-ply construction.
  • Amber Bamboo: Made from fast-growing, rapidly-renewable and sustainable bamboo in a solid void-free 3-ply vertical edge construction with formaldehyde-free binder. Bamboo ply material makes for exceedingly durable, strong, light, and consistently high-quality milled parts. The bamboo has an amber golden-brown hue produced by caramelizing naturally occurring sugars within the bamboo. The face surface has a smooth finish, and the milled edge shows the two surface layers over the central core layer.

Select Heatsink Finish
The Mx heatsink when ordered with the new second generation products is available with the following finishes as shown in the above rendering and listed from left to right:
  • Black Anodize: A new deep matte black anodize for improved emissivity, increased radiant cooling, and increased durability. Includes black side support mounting fasteners.
  • Raw Aluminum: Raw aluminum for a mildly bright silver-like appearance and reduced cost. This is an untreated aluminum finish that will patina and change appearance over time. Customers may prefer the patina appearance, or they can recondition and brighten surfaces as desired. Includes stainless steel side support mounting fasteners.
  • Note: See heatsink finishes in product photos, and see the Materials Specifications to learn more.

Select Optional Fan Cooling System
The massive Mx heatsink provides silent thermally conductive cooling, and was also designed for fan driven airflows to boost cooling performance. The Mx heatsink with dock supports works with both the 140mm and 80mm fans, that can be used individually or simultaneously for maximum cooling. The extra-large 140mm fan bolts directly onto the heatsink for efficient and quiet heatsink cooling. The 80mm fan sits behind the heatsink to simultaneously cool the heatsink while driving cooling airflow into the 2021+ MacBook Pro’s center intake vent. Available 140 and 80mm fan systems:
  • 140mm fixed-speed gray fan G09(14): The gray Noctua NF-P14s redux-900 fan offers a good balance between cooling and noise performance with long-life bearings, 900 rpm speed, 49.3 CFM / 84 m3h airflow, 0.77 mm H2O static pressure, and 13.2 dBA noise.
  • 140mm adjust-speed black fan B15(14): The black Noctua NF-A14 PWM chromax.black.swap fan and the Noctua NA-FC1 speed-controller covers the full range of ultra-quiet to hi-airflow cooling performance with ultra-long-life bearings, 300 to 1500 rpm speed, 82.5 CFM / 140 m3h airflow, 2.08 mm H2O static pressure, 0-24.6 dBA noise when set to maximum speed.
  • 140mm adjust-speed black fan B15.2(14): The black Noctua NF-A14x25 G2 PWM chromax.black fan and Noctua NA-FC1 speed-controller is Noctua’s latest next-generation fan design that covers the full range of ultra-quiet to hi-airflow cooling performance with ultra-long-life bearings, 300 to 1500 rpm speed, 91.6 CFM / 156 m3h airflow, 2.56 mm H2O static pressure, 0-24.8 dBA noise when set to maximum speed.
  • 80mm fixed-speed red fan R17(8): The red blades and black frame SilenX EFX-08-15 fan offers a good balance between cooling and noise performance with 1700 rpm speed, 31.8 CFM airflow, 2.42 mm H2O static pressure, 16.8 dBA noise.
  • 80mm adjust-speed black fan B22(8): The black Noctua NF-A8 PWM chromax.black.swap fan and NA-FC1 speed-controller prioritize ultra-quiet performance with ultra-long-life bearings, 450 to 2200 rpm speed, 32.7 CFM airflow, 2.37 mm H2O static pressure, and 17.7 dBA noise at max speed.
  • 140mm B15(14) and 80mm B22(8): Includes the Noctua NF-A14 PWM chromax.black.swap fan, Noctua NF-A8 PWM chromax.black.swap fan and NA-FC1 speed-controller so that both can run simultaneously for maximum cooling.
  • 140mm B15.2(14) and 80mm B22(8): Includes the Noctua NF-A14x25 G2 PWM chromax.black fan, Noctua NF-A8 PWM chromax.black.swap fan and NA-FC1 speed-controller so that both can run simultaneously for maximum cooling.
